Charley Nolen, 89, passed to the loving arms of Jesus on October 9, 2020 Charley was born on August 27, 1931, in Lamar County Texas, to Lewis Edd and Alvie Mae (Jones) Nolen. Charley moved to Swisher County with his parents and younger siblings in 1950. Charley married Jerry Beth McDowell on September 15, 1961, in Canyon, Texas. Together they raised their three children in Tulia, teaching them unconditional love, the value of hard work, and to count their blessings. Charley worked at various cotton gins until he began employment with Swisher County as a road grader operator in 1959. After 40 years of service, Charley retired in 1999. Charley enjoyed tinkering in his shop and could fix just about anything. He loved being outdoors and for many years he and Jerry harvested a variety of vegetables from their garden. Charley also enjoyed watching sports especially the Dallas Cowboys, the Texas Rangers, the Dallas Mavericks and he rarely missed WWE on Monday nights. He had a great sense of humor and was fluent in sarcasm. Charley was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers Paul Edward Nolen, Melvin Nolen, Luther Floyd Nolen, Dean Nolen, Raymond Nolen, Lewis Grant “Bunk” Nolen, and his sisters Ruby Vaughn, Dorothy Williams, and Sue Overton. Charley loved his family and was a devoted husband, dad, and Paw Paw. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Jerry Nolen, three children, Charlotte Nolen, J.L. (Suzanne) Nolen, Robert (Gloria) Nolen; four grandchildren, Ryan Nolen, Brady (Megan) Nolen, Caley Nolen, and Shawyn Nolen; four great grandchildren, Masen, Bryan, Stella, and Jayce; one brother, John Nolen, and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at Calvary Baptist Church on Tuesday, October 13, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. with Rev. James Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. A visitation will be held on Monday, October 12, 2020, from 5:00pm to 7:00pm at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia.
