Curtis M. Surley, 98, passed away on December 6, 2024, at Plainview Healthcare Center. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, December 12, 2024, in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will follow at Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Curtis was born on June 4, 1926 in Bosque County, Texas, to Christian and Alma (Bakke) Surley. Curtis served in the United States Army, and was a veteran of World War II. He married Thelma Hart June 4, 1949, his 25th birthday. They were married 71 years. He spent most of his life in Plainview, where he worked as an auto mechanic alongside his brother, Orville, at Surley Brothers Garage. After closing his shop, Curtis spent the last years of his working life selling Mac Tools. He was a long time member of the 9th and Columbia Church of Christ in Plainview.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma; a daughter, Judy Clark; 4 brothers, Pernie Surley, Irvin Surley, Orville Surley, Joe Surley; and 3 sisters, Anna Marie Simmons, Irma Wilcox, Alice Jeschke.
Survivors include his daughter, Rhonda Hackett and her husband Mark, of Lamesa; his son, Darryl Surley, of Plainview; one brother, Eldon Surley and his wife, Barbara, of Hurst, TX; 6 grandchildren: Bryan Hackett and wife Susan, Kevin Hackett and wife Kimberly, Melanie Turner and husband Wesley, Ashley Clark, Brandon Clark, and Jordan Clark; and by 8 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express their grateful appreciation for the love and care given to our Daddy by Peggy McDonald and Traditions Health Hospice Care.
