Darlene Riley (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas-- Peggy Darlene Riley, 77 years old, died on January 20, 2019 at Swisher Memorial Hospital in Tulia, Texas.  Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, January 22, 2019 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Davenport and Rev. Jim Brown officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 pm Monday, January 21, 2019 at the funeral home. Darlene had a gift to paint and draw, had a green thumb, was great with dogs, and even loved to fish!  She had various financial, educational and commercial jobs but mostly enjoyed homemaking, and volunteering for many FBC ministries. Darlene graduated from Littlefield High School in 1960 and met her sweetheart E.W. Riley through a blind date.  She married him on March 31, 1961 in Canyon, Texas. They have been married for 57 years and raised their two children David & Amy in Tulia, Texas.  She was preceded in death by her parents: Curtis and Lois Chisholm and two sisters: Norma Wall and Joy Chisholm. Darlene was a gracious, empathetic, kind and loving lady who knew her strength came from her intimacy with God.  She was the heart of the Riley family and lived Christ’s love as a tireless example through serving others and especially teaching her beloved Sunday school class at FBC for many years.  With a passion for Jesus and her family, Darlene loved her ShihTzu dog Jaci, growing roses, reading, studying the Bible, playing games/cards (especially with grandkids), and talking to her children most every day. She is survived by her husband of 57 years: E.W. Riley, Jr. of Tulia, her children: David Greg Riley and spouse Gretchen of College Station and Amy Denae’ Hossler and spouse John of Chattanooga, TN, her grandchildren: Heidi Renee Riley of Atlanta, GA, Haley Jordan Hossler of Fort Worth, Sophie Kaitlyn Hossler-Heath and spouse Clayton of Chattanooga, TN and Jaden Isaiah Hossler of Chattanooga, TN. The family is deeply grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers and support from so many incredible people through cards, visits, food, flowers and random acts of kindness.  We would especially like to thank the incredible nurses and staff at Swisher Memorial Hospital as well as Karis Farris, Dr. Marnell and Dr. Rossi. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church or a charity of your choice. Mom loved unconditionally and lived by 1 Corinthians 13:1-13 (TLT) which describes her best to us…                           Love never gives up. Love cares more for others than for self.                                    Love doesn’t want what it doesn’t have.                                                           Love doesn’t strut, Doesn’t have a swelled head, Doesn’t force itself on others, Isn’t always “me first,” Doesn’t fly off the handle, Doesn’t keep score of the sins of others, Doesn’t revel when others grovel, Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth, Puts up with anything, Trusts God always, Always looks for the best, Never looks back, But keeps going to the end.
