Don Adams (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Don Adams, 81, of Tulia, died Saturday, February 29, 2020.  He was born February 20, 1939 in Albuquerque, NM to Edward and Christine Hills Adams. The family moved to Premont, TX to a citrus and cotton farm in 1949. He graduated from Premont High School in 1957 and from Texas A&M in 1961 as a Mechanical Engineer. He worked at Celanese Chemical Company in Bishop, TX until 1965.

He married Freva Byrd of Tulia on August 25, 1962. They relocated to Tulia in 1965 and worked with Wylie Byrd at Roll-A-Cone while developing ideas he had for products used in the refining industry. By 1970, he and Freva had started D/A Mfg. Co. With the help of many dedicated employees, they built and shipped valves all over the world. He remained active in the business until his health failed. During his lifetime he developed many unique products and received several patents and awards.

They also farmed and ranched while raising a family of six boys.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Freva, his sons: Kennan (Becky) of Texarkana, Dexter (Sherry) of Tulia, Delwin (Kristie) of Tulia, David of Decatur, Kerry Don (Tandy) of Tulia and Joe Wayne (Julia) of Texarkana. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law: Donna and David Gibson of Provo, UT, 18 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at Linda’s Event Center, Tulia, TX. Burial will follow in the Wayside Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
