Donald Dean Sarchet (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Donald Dean Sarchet was born on August 27, 1931, at Red Hill in Swisher County as the sixth of eight children to Harold Frederick and Molly Imogene Simmons Sarchet. Growing up on the family farm in rural Swisher County cultivated in him a strong work ethic and a lifetime love of the land. Donald worked various jobs as a young man but in March 1952 he began a career with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company that lasted more than 30 years. After retiring from Southwestern Bell, Donald didn’t sit back and take it easy, he began crafting handmade wooden items in his home garage, volunteered at a local school and the High Plains Food Bank. He was also an active member of Telephone Pioneers of America and always available to his family, friends, and neighbors for help with any project they might have. His servant’s heart earned him the 1992 “7 Who Care” award from Channel 7 in Amarillo. This annual award was designed to recognize local volunteers for their tireless service to their community and others.

Donald began collecting and restoring antique farm equipment with a special interest in all things John Deere. Donald was a founding member of The Two-Cylinder Tractor Club and held several offices. He was also a charter member of Calvary Baptist Church in Tulia.

Donald married LaNelle Smith on August 28, 1948, at the home of her parents Darrell and Nettie Smith in Tulia. He is preceded in death by his parents, three brothers; Thomas, Harold, and Robert, two sisters; Edith Cruce and Elizabeth Sue Skelton and his wife LaNelle Sarchet.

He is survived by his four children; Donald Ray Sarchet and wife Tinker of Lubbock, Kim Sarchet and wife Kathie of Amarillo, Kerry Sarchet and wife Carrie of Anton and Karmyn Seaberg and husband Bill of Amarillo, two brothers; Jerry Sarchet and wife Elta of Lubbock and Charles Sarchet of San Antonio, 11 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild on the way.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, from 6:00 to 7:30 pm at the funeral home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, December 30, 2021, in the Calvary Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
