Donna Morris, a lifelong resident of the Tulia community, passed away on June 18, 2024, at the age of 80. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 21, 2024 at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Orlando Lopez officiating.  A visitation will be held at Kornerstone Funeral Home on Thursday, June 20, 2024, 6:00 to 7:00 pm.

Donna was born on January 18, 1944, to Carl and Vera Rucker. Donna grew up in Tulia and graduated from Tulia High School in 1962. She married Don Morris on April 18, 1962, and they celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary before Don’s passing. Donna attended Cosmetology school and enjoyed doing hair for many years. She also helped Don and his parents in the family business, Huxford’s Department Store. Donna truly enjoyed helping customers and going to market to find the latest trends/items for their loyal customers. She also lent her sewing skills to the family business by being the head seamstress for many years. Donna ended her career at Pat’s Beauty Salon where she made many lifelong friends.

Donna was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of Tulia and served in many capacities. She enjoyed working in the community after her retirement by volunteering at Tulia Good Shepherd and serving as an election worker during election season for many years.

Known for her creativity, Donna enjoyed crafting, painting, stained glass, and sewing, just to name a few. She always had a craft or sewing project in progress. There are many baby blankets, pillows, Christmas stockings, paintings, and stain glass items that are still enjoyed by family and friends in their homes. Donna also enjoyed working outdoors planting flowers and gardening. She and Don took great pride in having a wonderful back yard. They spent many nights sitting on the back porch with family, friends, and their special Buffalo Street neighbors. Another of Donna’s favorite activity outside of Tulia was fishing off Tom’s dock at Lake Brownwood. Many early mornings and late nights were spent catching fish with family.

Family was very important to Don and Donna. Many holidays were spent in Tulia – sometimes with up to 20 people staying in their three-bedroom home. Everyone enjoyed hanging out with Mamaw and Papa and playing games. There were also many family vacations spent at Lake Brownwood.

Donna is preceded in death by her husband, Don, her parents, Carl and Vera Rucker and her brother, Russell Rucker.

She is survived by her daughters, Amy Burress and husband Tom, Susan McHone and husband Gary, her son, Trent Morris and wife Michele, her grandchildren, Brett and wife Jenna, Spencer and wife Madi, Justin and wife Alexis, Alexi and husband Cristian, Braughn, Hailey, Ryan, Eryn, Shelby and Maci. She has five great grandchildren, Eliana, Madilyn, Barrett, Kingston and Laney Ray, one niece, Jamie Skaggs, and two nephews, Greg and Grant Morris.

Donations can be made to the Swisher County Archives and Museum.
