She was born October 19, 1939, in Salem, Kentucky, to Thomas O. and Lillie Mae Pace. After graduating from Amarillo High in 1958, she attended Amarillo College where she majored in business. While in college, she met a handsome airman named Thomas Luke Davey who was from California and serving in the United States Airforce at the Amarillo Air Force Base. Tom and Sue married on April 5, 1961, in Amarillo. Tom’s job moved them around and they finally made their home in Tulia, TX.
Sue worked for Reeve’s Insurance Company until she decided to go back to college. She attended West Texas State University and graduated with a bachelor’s in fine arts majoring in music education. After graduation, Sue began her career in teaching for Tulia ISD. There she taught elementary music for 20 years. After her retirement in 2002, she and Tom opened a ceramic store where she enjoyed painting ceramics and teaching painting lessons. Sue had a passion for music and enjoyed playing the piano and singing. She was very active in all her grandchildren’s activities and tried very hard to attend all of them. She was an awesome cook and loved being in the kitchen and passing on her cooking secrets to her grandchildren. She was an amazing seamstress and could sew up an outfit or costume in one night. Sue was an active and longtime member of the First United Methodist Church.
