Doug O'Daniel (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Doug O’Daniel, 81, passed away on Tuesday, February 25, 2020. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, February 28, 2020 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. A visitation will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 pm on Friday.

Doug was born Howard Douglas O’Daniel on May 4, 1938 in Tulia to Howard Leslie and Amy Audrey Mills O’Daniel. He grew up in Tulia and graduated Tulia High School. He attended North Texas State University in Denton on a basketball scholarship. He was drafted in the US Army in 1961.  Doug received an Honorable Discharge after his father died to run the family farm.  He was engaged in farming and the agriculture industry his whole life.

He was a member of the Jaycees, excelled in all sports, but basketball was his favorite.  He loved volunteering his time for sporting events and drove the Joy Bus for his Church.  Doug was quick witted, loved a good joke, but above all else his smile was contagious.  Later in life, he was the caregiver for his mother.  He looked forward to visiting her each day in the nursing home and taking a tour of the farm.  He will be missed by many.

Doug was a member of the Central Church of Christ in Tulia. 

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his three children: Leslie Otwell and husband David of Amarillo, Pam Tanner and husband Robert of Borger and Trent O’Daniel and wife Sherri of Amarillo, one sister: Wilma Lou Sawatsky of Santa Fe, NM , one brother: Mark O’Daniel of Lubbock, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
