Douglas Cox (Plainview)

Douglas Cox, 90, passed away on Sunday, April 29, 2018. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at the Kornerstone Chapel with Dennis Butler officiating. The family honored his request to donate his body to Texas Tech School of Medicine. A visitation will be held from 6:00-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Douglas was born July 20, 1927 in Plainview to Bradford and Georgia Nola (Potts) Cox. He was the youngest son in a family of twelve children. His sister, Georgia Daffern enjoyed spoiling him. Then JoAnn Flowers and Chrystelle Mitchell pitched in when they were born. Dad had a love for the land. He’s told stories of breaking out many pieces of land. We love the story of him telling his Dad he was heading out to break the land around the family home. And he did! Planting cotton then hoeing every acre himself. He thinks he was maybe 10-12 at the time. We aren’t really sure what grade level Dad completed in school, some say eighth, some say tenth. Rumor has it he quit, walked home and threw his books in the well. When asked he simply replied, “I threw them somewhere!” Our dad was a big ole mess! He married the love of his life, Wanda Stanton Cox on October 19, 1946. She preceded him in death on September 23, 2015. In the last few months of Dad’s life we would ask him if he had a do over, what if anything would he change? He hesitated a bit, “Not a single thing! I’ve lived a good life and enjoyed every minute of it!” So praise the Lord, Dad is healed, in Heaven running with new knees. Our family would like to give a huge heartfelt thank you to Westridge Manor and their fabulous staff. We truly believe our Dad’s quality of life was tons better because of them. Survivors include his children: Galon and Cindy Cox of Stephenville, TX, Jerry and Gail Cox of Plainview, TX, Cheryl and Jon Bass of Quarterway, TX, Vickie and Mike Glenn of Lubbock, TX; ten grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter. The family suggests memorials to Aiken Baptist Church, 925 Utica, Plainview, TX 79072 or Cal Farley’s Boys Ranch, P.O. Box 1890, Amarillo, TX 79174-0001 Online condolences can be made at www.kornerstonefunerals.com
