Ed Thornton, 96, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2018 in Plainview. A Memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday, April 9, 2018 at the Family Life Chapel at First Baptist Church with Travis Hart officiating. Burial will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, April 8, 2018 at the funeral home. Mr. Thornton was born August 6, 1921 to F.L. “Finis” and Kimmie Thornton in Plainview, TX. He graduated from Plainview High School in 1940 and served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner’s mate. He worked for Texas Oil Company before going to work for Southwestern Public Service where he worked for 35 years. He was a Cub Scout and a Boy Scout and a member of the Masonic Lodge #709. He loved to travel and spend time at their cabin in Pecos, New Mexico. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Leota Joplin Thornton and his second wife, Charlotte Herr Thornton. Survivors include his daughter, Linda Morris and her husband Jack of Plainview, Texas; two sons, Eddie Thornton and wife Karen of Sulphur Springs, Texas, Travis Thornton and wife Amy of Plainview, Texas; six grandchildren and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; also survived by Charlotte’s family, Judie and Don James, Bob and Brad James.
