Elmer Lee Criswell, Jr., 88, passed away on Friday, February 16, 2018. A graveside service will be held 11:00 A.M. Monday, February 19, 2018 at Plainview Memorial Park in Plainview. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. A visitation will be held from 4:00-5:30 on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview. Elmer Lee was born April 14, 1929, in Merkel, TX to Elmer Lee, Sr. and Allene Criswell. He graduated from Stanton High School and attended Texas Tech University where he was on the football team for two years and graduated in 1950. On August 13, 1950 he married Betty Adkins and they eventually made their home in Plainview where they farmed and raised their family. She preceded him in death on April 18, 2013. Elmer Lee was a man of many talents, from helping build a cotton gin to running a pump supply company. He was an avid horseman, riding with the Plainview Pony express for years. In 1970 he started racing quarter horses, winning the Ruidoso All-American Derby in 2002. He continued owning and breeding race horses until his death. It was a passion he loved sharing with his sons and grandchildren. He attended Garland Street Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his wife Betty Criswell; his parents, a sister, Lura Brown and his cousin Robert J Criswell. He is survived by his two sons, David Criswell and his wife DeAun of Plainview and Don Criswell of Plainview and; his grandchildren, Taryn Minter and her husband Chad, Todd Criswell and his wife Ashley, and Ty Criswell and his wife Chelsea, all of Plainview; four great-grandchildren, Delaney and Ainsley Minter and Hollis and Lucy Criswell; his brother, W.B.
