Emma Stidham Choate (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas-Emma Stidham Choate, 85, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 29, 2021. A Graveside service will be held on Friday, December 31, 2021 at 3:00 PM at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. Harold Drake officiating. Services are under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

Emma was born on February 24, 1936 in Smith County, Texas to James and Dolores (Boshears) Stidham. Emma came from a large hard-working family and was a twin to Henry. Emma attended Quitaque High School and later met Sam Edward Choate through friends, and they got married on August 5, 1958. Emma would help Sam around the garden, and she cooked all the time. She worked at Swisher Memorial Hospital as a nurse’s aide and she also worked at the Pottery Indian Shop and Perry’s Variety Store. When Sam got hurt, she became his caretaker until his passing in 2011. She loved the Senior Citizens Center and her church friends. Emma was a gentle, sweet person who was loved by many.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Dolores Stidham; her husband, Sam Edward Choate; her son, George Choate; her brothers, Henry, Jim, Johnny, Blue, Blackie, Charles, Alvin and Adrian; her sister, Bonnie Purdy.

She is survived by her children, Sammie Artho and husband Paul of Canyon, TX, Tammye Patterson of Waxahachie, TX, Bonnie Abraham and husband Jason of Canadian, TX, and Johnny Choate and wife Nikki of Aurora, CO.; her brother, Roy Stidham of Peralta, NM; her grandchildren, Katie Artho, Maddie Urban, Luke Abraham, Sam Patterson, Lincoln Choate, Abby Patterson, Sawyer Choate and Sayler Choate; her great grandchildren, Kamal Patterson, Easton Urban and Briggs Urban.
