Tulia, Texas- Fernando Cruz, 44, passed away in the comfort of his mother’s home on Thursday, September 14, 2023, in Childress. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 18, 2023, at 1:30 PM in Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Tulia. Fernando was born on September 10, 1979, in Tulia to Esbardo Cruz and Rebecca Chapa. He graduated from Tulia High School in 1998 and after graduating he enlisted in the United States Army. He was stationed at Fort Bragg, Carolina and then came to Texas to the medical base at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio. Fern loved to travel all over the country with a free spirit. He was always the center of attention when he was around his family. Fern loved his brothers and sister very much. During his last few years, he lived in Houston with his Aunt Nora and cousins who were a second family to him and they helped take care of him with great hospitality and love. In 2022 Fernando moved to Childress to live with his mother, Rebecca, who took care of him until his last day. He is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents; Emilio and Elvira Cruz, his maternal grandparents; Vicente and Maria Chapa and his sister; Rose Marie Cruz. He is survived by his son; Chase Mathew Cruz of Kentucky, his mother; Rebecca Haden, and husband Anthony, his father; Esbardo Cruz and wife Sylvia, his brothers and sister; Richard Chapa and wife Adel of Plainview, Beatrice Chapa Pando and husband Miguel of Tulia, John Cruz and wife Heather of Amarillo and many nieces and nephews.
