Tulia, Texas—Gary Wayne Barnett, 76, of Tulia, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2020. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 am Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Rose Hill Cemetery with Rev. John Gillespie, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

Gary was born in Springer, New Mexico on December 19, 1943 to J.T. and Eulah Barnett. They moved to the family farm west of Tulia while he was still an infant.

Gary graduated from Tulia High School in 1962. He was drafted into the US Army and served from 1965 to 1967. He married Karen Therwhanger on July 3, 1971. He farmed locally and then drove for the Panhandle Community Services until his retirement in 2013.

He is preceded in death by his parents, a brother: Tom Barnett and a niece: Laura Barnett.

He is survived by his wife: Karen Barnett of Tulia, his five children: Chad and Stacie Barnett of Happy, Kyle and Julie Barnett of Canadian, Brent and Miranda Barnett of Amarillo, Marci and Blake Junell of Claude and Ashley and Nick Miller of Lefors; seven grandchildren: Lacie, Sam, Truett, Millie Jo, Brooklyn, Barrett and Caleb; one brother: Duane and Brenda Barnett of Amarillo and one sister: Sheila and Ronnie Via of Tulia and several nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank all the staff members for their care at the Thomas E. Creek VA clinic and to the Kindred Hospice staff for their loving care of Gary before and during his confinement at home.
