Gene Kurklin, 76, went to Heaven on Tuesday June 5, 2018, at his home in Petersburg, Texas. He was born to Howard and Evelyn Kurklin on Jan. 27, 1942, in Los Angeles, California. He moved to Petersburg, TX in 1946 when his father finished his work at an aircraft factory during World War II. He attended Petersburg Schools, Hardin Simmons University, and Texas Tech. He served in the Army National Guard.
Gene returned home to farm. He married Ann Stanfield in 1966. From this union his children Sue Ann and Kent were born. In 1996, he married Sharon Graves and added two more children, David and Deidra, to his family.
Gene loved the land, his family, and his God. He so enjoyed all nine of his grand children and their many activities.
He is survived by his mother Evelyn Kurklin; his wife Sharon Kurklin; his daughter Sue Ann (Michael) Smith; his son Kent (Marcy) Kurklin; his step-son David (Tammy) Graves; his step daughter Deidra (Brian) Stephens; and his sister Pat (Dwayne) Avery. His grandchildren are Blake, Ryan, and Heather Smith, Logan and Kole Kurklin, Avery and Zander Stephens, and Harrison and Hunter Graves.
A visitation will be held on Thursday evening, June 7, 2018 from 6 to 8 P.M. at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 8, 2018, at the First Baptist Church in Petersburg with Rev. Nick DeLay officiating and Rev. Sharon Wiese assisting. Burial will follow in the Petersburg Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
The family suggests memorials to the First Baptist Church in Petersburg.
