Tulia, Texas--Gene Marlin Latham went to his heavenly home and met Jesus face-to-face on Saturday, July 21, 2018, in Ruidoso, NM. A visitation will be held at 10:00 am with a service to follow at 11:00 on Tuesday, July 24, at First Baptist Church inTulia with Randy Wade and Rick Justice officiating. Gene was born on November 11, 1947, in Lamesa, Texas, to Curtis and Vivian Latham. He grew up in Vigo Park and attended the San Jacinto School until 8th grade when he began attending school in Tulia where he graduated in 1965. He went on to attend Texas Tech University where he graduated with a degree in Ag-Economics and returned to Vigo Park to continue farming alongside his dad. He also served in the Army National Guard from 1969 to 1975. He married Kathy Norwood in September, 1972, and they made their home in Vigo Park. Gene was a member of Vigo Park Baptist Church since he was 6 months old and he faithfully served as a deacon for most of his adult life until 2013 when he moved to Ruidoso. Gene and Kathy returned to the panhandle in 2015 to live in Lubbock but continued to visit Ruidoso for brief getaways from time-to-time. He and Kathy are now members at Southcrest Baptist Church in Lubbock. Gene is preceded in death by his parents, Curtis and Vivian Latham and one brother, Ted Latham. He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Kathy Latham of Lubbock; one daughter, Marlo Wade and husband Randy of Kaufman; one son, Steven Latham and wife Diana of Lubbock; six grandchildren: Sydney, Micah and Sutton Wade and Carter, Adalynn and Caleb Latham; one brother, Ronnie Latham and wife Jan of Corinth; one sister-in-law, Carla of Lubbock; and many nieces and nephews.
