Tulia, Texas—Gilbert Lee Brookins, Sr., 68, passed away on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, May 9, 2019 in the Central Church of Christ. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

Gilbert was born on December 24, 1950 in Ferris, Texas to John and Frankie Brookins. He grew up in Tulia and attended Tulia schools. He loved to play sports, cook, fish, fix cars, build things and help others. He love working in his yard. He married Flora Mathis. He worked for Taylor Evans and Plainview Bi-Products. He was a member of Central Church of Christ.

He is preceded in death by his mother: Frankie Brookins, his brother and sisters: Jerry Brookins, Patricia Brookins and Rebecca Caldwell and one granddaughter: Danika Brookins.

He is survived by his father: John Brookins of Tulia, his wife: Flora Brookins of Tulia, two daughters: JoAnn Brookins of Tulia and Christina Moralez of Tulia, three sons: Gilbert Lee Brookins, Jr. of Tulia, Johnny Brookins of Abilene and Tim Brookins of Tulia, two sisters: Barbara Brookins-Hill of Cedar Hill and Mae Hawthorne of Tulia, two brothers: Freddie Brookins, Sr. of Tulia and Bon Johnson of Dallas, fifteen grandchildren, one great grandchild and several nieces and nephews.
