Guillermo Luna (Plainview)

Guillermo Luna AKA Willie Moon AKA “El Gordo” AKA Dad, 74 of Lockney walked into his eternal home peacefully on January 28, 2022, surrounded by his children. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, February 1, 2022 at Trinity Life Church in Plainview, Texas with David Luna of Trinity Life Church officiating. Interment will follow in the Lockney Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

A visitation will be held Monday, January 31, 2022 from 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Kornerstone Chapel.

Guillermo was born February 10, 1947, in Hondo, Texas to Jose and Romana Luna. Guillermo was a mischievous child that grew up really fast. Although he did not have much education and had to go into the work field at a really young age, he managed to work at the Plainview Compress for 24 years. He married Hortencia Rendon on January 31, 1972.

If you knew anything about him then you knew that he had a huge sense of humor, if you spent any amount of time then no doubt about it you laughed multiple times. Dad had stories for everybody because in his words “yo ya vive por eso” in other words, “I have already been through that.” If we watched a movie, then he said he saw it in 1947, if we heard a song, it was no good. Guillermo loved baseball, cars, music, lottery tickets, old western movies, the flea market and despite their many, many losses he was faithful to his Cowboys. According to him they never found the baseball he hit out of the park in 1952. Guillermo did not know a stranger, if you crossed his path, he was going to talk to you and try to find out if he knew anybody you were related to. He enjoyed sitting outside of Amigos just to talk to people.

The legacy he temporarily leaves behind are his three sons; Joe Luna of Lubbock, David Luna and wife Monica of Plainview, Guillermo Luna Jr. “Willie” and wife Alma of Lubbock. Two daughters; Julia Luna of Plainview and Melinda Luna and husband Hector Morales of Lockney, 20 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Guillermo is now reunited with his wife, his parents, two brothers Julian Castaneda and Carmen Castaneda, two sisters Simona Blanco and Polonia Gomez, two grandsons David Eliaz Luna and Nathan Allen Luna, and one granddaughter Alvezza Prosperity Luna.

If we could sum up his life in three words it would be free, forgiven and united.
