Harvey’s journey began on June 1, 1943 in Perryton, Texas to his parents, George and Winifred (Cooper) Bozeman.
Harvey grew up in Tulia, Texas with Seven siblings, George Jr, Joyce, Melvin, Kenneth, Clem, Nancy and saving best for last John. (that’s what he says!) Harvey was a PROUD Tulia Hornet from the graduating class of 1961. After graduation he attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Tx. graduating top of his class with a Beer Drinking degree in November of his first semester. His dad came and helped him pack for home to work on the farm in Perryton for Granddaddy Cooper. He said he thought his GPA was a -1 if that is possible.
Since college was not his thing at a young age and he could not seem to stay out of trouble with his beer drinking degree, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for two years. One of those years served was in Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic.
On a visit home in Tulia, he came face to face with the love of his life, Diana Bryant Bozeman. They were married on October 7, 1967 and lived in Colorado Springs at the Army base to finish up his military career. They soon moved to Amarillo, Tx and Harvey began working as a helicopter mechanic for Bell Helicopter. Soon to come was their first-born child, daddy’s girl, Ronda Jean, born May 30, 1968. Taking a bit longer to come along was the bouncing baby boy, showing up early on April 7, 1972, with the long name of Harvey Dale Bozeman, Jr but only known to all of us as Buttons.
In 1973, Harvey, Diana and their little family moved back to Tulia, Tx and made their home on a farm just East of Tulia. The farming industry didn’t go quite as planned for Harvey, so they moved to town in Tulia where Ronda started school and made many young school friends until moving to Perryton in 1978 for Harvey to work in the booming oilfield business. That is where they stayed for 10 years, through good times and bad.
Diana wanted to move back to Tulia to be closer to her family, so Harvey decided at the young age of 48 to try college again for a different degree. He used his Pell Grant money from the service and graduated top of his class with an Associate degree from Amarillo College and became a Registered Nurse at the prime age of 50 years old! Very proud moment for all of us and him. Harvey landed his dream job at the Tulia Correctional Facility as the Director of Nurses at the unit under the direction of Texas Tech University Healthcare. He spent 15 great years working for the prison as the D.O.N. at a job he loved with the best crew of nurses and doctors ever!
After losing the love of his life, Diana, in March of 2013 to cancer, he retired and moved to Carnegie, Ok to be close to Ronda, her husband Dean, and two of the best grandkids in the world. Clinton and Cameron had their Granny and Granddad wrapped around their fingers and those kids could do no wrong in their eyes. Harvey spent the last 6 years of his life following the Grandkids around watching Clinton play college football for the SWOSU Bulldogs and graduating with a Master’s Degree and supporting Cameron with her Senior high school activities, college activities and getting her moved into her first big kid job after graduating with two degrees in Finance and Accounting to Oklahoma City. Fun times!
When the Horn family moved to Weatherford from Carnegie, Harvey moved too. He started going to the Pioneer Senior Center daily and became very involved and made so many friends! His table buddies, Rose, Larry Don and Darrell deserve all the credit for his happiness in Weatherford, OK. They were separated for arguing politics from time to time.
Harvey was one of a kind, with a smart wit and big heart. His jokes were always above our heads, but his laugh made us laugh with him. He loved his family gatherings and was the most competitive person there was. He could coach from his chair and argue with the TV like they could hear what he was saying. He loved playing Golf in his earlier years and loved watching it in his later. He was always cheering for his Texas Tech Red Raiders, Texas Rangers and Dallas Cowboys.
He loved so hard, he would do anything for anyone, and he will be sorely missed for his great big hugs and always being first in line for any meal served. His favorite past time was spending time with family and friends.
Harvey was called home on Friday, January 24, 2020. He is now back with the love of his life, Diana and passed family members and friends.
Harvey is survived by one daughter, Ronda Horn and husband Dean Horn of Weatherford, OK. One son, Harvey Dale Bozeman Jr. and his wife Andrea of Tulia, Tx. Three brothers, George Bozeman Jr of Deerfield, NH, Clem J. Bozeman of Perryton, Tx and John Bozeman and wife Carla of Perryton, Tx. Two sisters, Joyce Daly of San Antonio, Tx and Dr. Nancy Ann Bozeman of Kennedale, Tx. Two Grandchildren, Clinton Horn and wife, Kendi Horn of Weatherford, Ok and Cameron Horn of Oklahoma City, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Diana Bryant Bozeman and two brothers Melvin Bozeman and Kenneth Bozeman.
