Hazel Mathews (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Hazel Mathews, 93, passed away on Sunday, January 19, 2020 in Tulia. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, January 22, 2020 in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel with Rev. Brian West officiating. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm at Olton Cemetery, Olton, Texas. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 6:00 to 7:30 pm at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.

Hazel was born on January 25, 1926 in Hopkins County to William and Mattie (Fields) Davis. She married Wallace Cameron “W.C.” Mathews on November 1, 1941. They moved to Olton in 1952 and operated the Tasty Cream Drive Inn for 30 years, until Wallace’s death. In 1995 Hazel moved to Tulia and later worked at Swisher Home Health. She delivered Meals on Wheels and was a member of the Nazarene Church in Olton and Calvary Baptist Church in Tulia.  Hazel loved to quilt and the outdoors especially spending time in her garden. She was an amazing cook and made sure everyone ate until they were full. Her family will remember Hazel being that loving lady who would do anything for anyone and never judged anyone by their work.

She is preceded in death by her parents, William and Mattie Davis, her husband, Wallace Mathews, two brothers; Haskell Davis and Travis Davis, two sisters; Stella Eads and Irene Bedworth.

She is survived by two daughters; Barbara Duncan and Donna Dunavan, two sons; James Mathews and Jesse Mathews, her nephews and nieces; C.T. Arnold, Barbara Hyatt, Lonnie Davis and Larry Davis, four grandchildren; Sherry Carrell and husband Terry, Tammy Childers and husband Donnie, Jana Alexander and husband Britt, Larry Collins and wife Carolina, her great grandchildren; Christy Vasek and husband Will, Cory Carrell, Kevin Carrell and wife Samantha, Amanda Manross and husband Derek, Bradley Davis and wife Brianna, Bryan Davis, Zane and  Jakob Childers, Brittney Sewill and husband Zach, Meagan and Blake Alexander, Andy Collins, Amy Collins, Callie Collins, Mercedes Mojica and Anna Barajas, her great, great grandchildren; Ethan Vasek, Alexis Vasek, Chaynee Carrell, Cayson Carrell, Carolina Carrell, Caleb Manross, Chase Manross, Zachary Manross, Brinley Davis, Kalyee Davis and Bryce Davis.
