Herb Purdon, 84, of Plainview passed away Saturday, January 27, 2024. Funeral service will be held 10:00 A.M. Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at Northwest Church of Christ with J Henderson officiating. Interment will follow at Plainview Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
Visitation will be held 6:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 30, 2024 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
Herbert John Purdon was born October 14, 1939, to Lionel and Winnie in Mufulira, Northern Rhodesia, Africa. He enjoyed driving his sports car and racing dirt bikes. In 1965 while working for the railroad, he met and fell in love with his beloved Judy Anne Clarke. They married on September 21st, 1968. In February 1971, they welcomed their first child Nigel. In August of 1972, their daughter Esther was born. Shortly thereafter, he was baptized and dedicated his life to serving the Lord. In 1982, Herb and Judy made the tough but prayerful decision to immigrate to America. They settled down in Plainview where they built their life. He spent his time helping the widows, volunteering with the prison and jail ministries, and doing mission work. He quietly served others behind the scenes. In 2009, He retired from Verizon. He enjoyed being active in his children and grandchildren’s lives. His hobbies included wood working, camping, and yardwork.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Lionel and Winnie Purdon.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Ann Purdon of Plainview; one son, Nigel Purdon and wife Sarah of Shallowater; one daughter, Esther Bradley and husband Bret of Kress; one brother, Dave Purdon of Harare, Zimbabwe; grandchildren, Ian Purdon of Lubbock, Derek Purdon of Littlefield, Halle Purdon of Lubbock, Bekah Cantu and husband Anakin of Wolfforth, Bailey Purdon of El Paso and one great grandson, Kellen Purdon of Lubbock.
The family would like to thank the Northwest Church of Christ for their continued love, support, and prayers and a special thank you to Herb’s caregivers Juanita La Fuentes and La La Falcon for their loving care of Herb during his illness. Also, a thank you to Traditions Hospice and B&I Medical equipment. Their kindness is forever appreciated.
