Isauro P Gutierrez, Jr. was born on October 3, 1948 in Sonora, Texas, and left this life unexpectedly on January 22, 2020. He was a loving and devoted husband to Norma for 44 years. He was a much beloved Dad to his son Isauro III married to Valessa and daughter Katherine Gutierrez married to Aaron Cantu. He was like a father to his beautiful niece Christabel Gutierrez. He was a treasured son to his parents Elia and Isauro Gutierrez, Sr., that preceded him in death. Isauro Jr. was a cherished big brother to his brothers Joe and Samuel Gutierrez. He was a proud and adored grandfather to six grandsons Brayden, Isauro Zachery IV, Ethan, Noah, Axl and Asher. They brought him much joy and he treasured each moment he spent with his “boys”. Isauro (Zorro) loved sports especially baseball. He particularly loved sports he could participate in and for many years he played in the Church Softball League. He not only played the sport but lived and breathed it with boundless energy in tournaments lasting 24 to 36 hours straight. Later in life, he chose golf as his new passion. He strived to perfect his game enjoying being outdoors for endless hours once playing 36 holes. When he made a “fantastic shot”, his eyes lit up and he would love to describe it to everyone with pride making them feel the thrill he felt. Zorro made so many friends along the way; each friendship he treasured. Zorro could strike up a conversation with anyone of any age or from any walk of life. It could be brain surgeon he golfed with, an author, a professional athlete or just anyone young or old. He could talk to a child and bring a smile. He had a generous heart even providing a home for some over the years. He was regarded like a respected and loving father to some. He had an adventurous soul loving to travel. It could be travel to a national park and he even traveled throughout Europe. History was another great love of his. Isauro worked for some years in a beef packing plant, a railroad rerailment crew and at Walmart Distribution Center for 22 years where he made many friends. He was a graduate of Plainview High School in 1968 and attended South Plains Community College. He served in the US Army in 1972 stationed in Germany and honorably discharged. Isauro loved family. He had so many cousins that he kept in touch with enjoying their conversations, sharing news and relishing their accomplishments such his cousin, the author, or a cousin that excelled in sports, for instance. He will be dearly missed and mourned by so many especially his wife that he made feel always cherished and loved. Celebration of Isauro P. Gutierrez, Jr.’s life will be held on January 27, 2020 at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Plainview, Texas under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. A Rosary and visitation will be held at 6:00 Sunday at Kornerstone Chapel. The family suggests memorials to the Sacred Heart Church or a charity of their choice.
