Isla Jean Law Bennett, 90, of Plainview passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the First United Methodist Church in Lockney with Rev. Ricky Carstensen officiating. Interment will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 23, 2018 in Salado Cemetery in Salado, Texas. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview. Isla Jean Law was born on September 16, 1928 to Alma Smith Law and J.C. Law in Belton, (Bell County) Texas. She attended public schools there, graduating from Belton High School in 1946. As a young girl, she learned to play the piano at Mary Hardin Baylor College. Jean joined the First United Methodist Church in Belton when she was 12 years old and served as pipe organist there when she was 16. In 1950, Jean graduated from the University of Texas with a Bachelor of Music degree. On January 28, 1950, she married Richard Bennie Bennett III of Tyler, Texas. During the late 1950's Jean taught public school music in Tyler and Smith County. She served as organist at Wesley Methodist Church and Pollard Methodist Church while living there. In 1957, she and Richard moved to Austin, Texas where she taught in the public schools. Jean served as organist at Westlake United Methodist Church, where she and Richard were founding members. In 2001, Jean and Richard moved to Plainview. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, member of U.M.W. serving as president for three years; member of the Harmony S.S. Class serving as president for two years and served as class pianist. Richard preceded her in death in 2003. She is survived by two daughters, Rosemary Douglass and husband Russell of Austin, Jean Anne Williams and husband Matt of Plainview; four grandchildren, Rusty Douglass & wife Ashley of Austin, Jordan Leigh Douglass of Atlanta,Georgia, Sunny Jean Williams Raulston & husband Ben of San Antonio and Dixie Kay Williams Everett & husband Logan of Floydada.
