Business and civic leader Jack Morris passed away July 9, 2018 at the age of 96. He was born Minter Irving Morris in Maypearl, Texas on September 15, 1921 to James Luther Morris and Alice Bertha Jordan Morris. He graduated from Maypearl High School in 1939. He attended North Texas Agricultural College in Arlington. He joined the United States Navy in 1942 and was commissioned as a Naval Aviator. Jack married Scottie Swafford on April 4, 1949 in Dallas, Texas. They were married 50 years when Scottie passed away in 1999. When Jack started selling Fords in Amarillo, Texas in 1952, he changed his name to Jack because it was an easy name to remember. He purchased Muleshoe Motor Company in 1956 and Winn Motor Company in Plainview in 1962. It later became Jack Morris Ford Lincoln Mercury Toyota. Jack served as president of the Plainview Lions Club and the Plainview Chamber of Commerce. He was instrumental in organizing the Plainview United Way and helped organize the Plainview Hale County Industrial Foundation. He was Plainview’s 1988 Man of the Year. He also served as President of the New Car Dealers Association, was Vice President Texas Automobile Dealers Association, and President of the Dallas District Ford Dealers Association. He was active in helping to raise money for various causes. One of his proudest accomplishments was helping to raise the money for the renovation of the swimming pool at the YMCA. Jack was a member of the First United Methodist Church and the Wesley Bible Class. He was a former president of the Board of Stewards and served his Church on numerous committees. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Scottie, his brothers J. L. Morris, E. R. Morris and Haynes Morris. He is survived by one brother S. T. Morris and one sister Alice Beth Willis and one sister-in-law Lois Morris; his dear friend Gena Liner; two daughters Lynette Morris and Patti Noel and her husband Ted; two beloved grandchildren Scott Noel and his wife Georgianna of Nairobi, Kenya and Suzanne Sifuentes and her husband Zach. Jack was blessed to have 6 great grandchildren, Savanna, Jasmine and Blake Noel and Zaerick, Kaylee and Brayden Sifuentes. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral service will be held 10:00 A.M. Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the chapel at First United Methodist Church in Plainview with Mike Schafer officiating and Scott Noel assisiting. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church or to the charity of your choice.
