Visitation for family and friends will be held from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. James was born on August 26, 1945 in Sterling, Colorado to Clarence William & Mollie (Grauberger) Gabel. Jim grew up on a farm outside of Sterling, Colorado. He was part of the first graduating class of Iver C. Ranum High School in 1964 and received his Bachelor in Arts degree from Warner Pacific College in Portland Oregon. He developed a love for the country and rural communities. This love of the rural area deeply impacted his insurance business and his life. After selling his P&C Insurance Agency in Denver, he moved to Greeley, Colorado. He started a new agency where he faithfully served the senior population of Northern Colorado for over 20 years. Upon retiring, he moved to Plainview to be closer to his children. His retirement plans did not last long as he could not stay away from Insurance. In 2017, he helped his daughter follow in his footsteps in starting an insurance agency serving families in West Texas and throughout the Panhandle. Until COVID lock down, Jim was found up at the office at least three to four days a week. He loved greeting clients and getting to know those who came into the office. He never knew a stranger. For those who knew him, he always talked about how much he loved his insurance clients in Colorado. How proud he was of his children and grandchildren and he loved sharing funny stories of growing up on a farm. His passion for photography was passed down to his children. Most importantly, he shared his love for God and His word everywhere he went. Jim developed a deep love and appreciation for scripture through his involvement with the Navigators in his 20's that continued throughout his life. He loved giving Bibles to those he met. He wanted to make sure that everyone had a bible that they could enjoy reading. He loved sharing with others the power of God's word and how He can transform your life. Jim will be deeply missed by his family and friends, but we rejoice that he is now with the LORD he loves so much! He was preceded in death by his parents. James is survived by one daughter, Christina Elaine Spruill & husband John Mark of Plainview, Texas; one son, Jonathan Allen Gabel & wife Shanna of Duncanville, Texas; his wife, Elizabeth Gabel of Duncanville, Texas; his sister, Connie Evansky; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
