James Stephen "Steve" Tye (Plainview)

James Stephen “Steve” Tye, 74, of Plainview, Texas passed away on Sunday, December 22, 2024, in Plainview, Texas. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, January 7, 2025, in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview, Texas. A private family graveside will take place before the service. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview, Texas

A visitation will be held from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Monday, January 6, 2025, in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel in Plainview, Texas.

Steve was born on July 8, 1950, in Plainview, Texas to J.M. and Jessie Tye. He graduated from Lockney High School in 1968 and attended West Texas A & M University. His passion was flying, and he received his private license as soon as he was old enough. He spent the next several decades flying for various people and organizations throughout North America. When he retired from flying, he had amassed nearly 10,000 hours, an ATP rating and several jet type ratings. He continued to be active in the Quiet Birdmen organization, serving as the leader of the Amarillo Hangar for many years. Many of his best friends throughout the world were QB’s. In his younger years he really knew his way around Las Vegas and he was no stranger to fast and fancy cars all his life. He was a rare individual who spent his entire life doing what he loved. He frequently would say to his friends that every day when he woke up, he thanked the Good Lord for giving him another wonderful day.

He is preceded in death by his parents, J.M. and Jessie Tye.

He is survived by his brother, John M Tye (Vyrella) and nephew John M Tye IV.
