Tulia, Texas- J.B. Benard 88, passed away on Sunday, February 21, 2021. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at 11:00 AM. at the Pentecostal Temple Church of God in Christ, 323 Oak Drive Amarillo, Texas with burial following at Rose Hill Cemetery in Tulia.  Funeral services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

 A viewing for family and friends will be held Friday, February 26, 2021 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the funeral home in Tulia.

Jim Barber Benard was born to Bee Moil and Estella (Waddleton) Benard on October 8, 1932, in Sandfield, Texas. He was the fifth of seven children. He attended high school in Winnsboro, Texas, where he was known as Jim Bob. From there, he ventured out into the world of employment at the age of 15. He would work through the summer and fall seasons, then return to school in the winter.

JB ventured out to Tulia, TX and found employment at Taylor-Evans Seed Company in 1956. This became a lifetime career for him progressing from laborer to truck driver to foreman. He worked for the company for over 40 years. During this time, he met and married Dora Mae Ervin, and to this union 5 children were born.  Jim and Dora placed their church membership at Jackson Chapel C.O.G.I.C.  In 2014, Mr. and Mrs. Benard relocated to Amarillo, TX and placed their church membership at Pentecostal Temple under the leadership of Pastor Elijah B. Demerson. He remained a member here until his passing.

  JB was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Barclay Benard and Gaston Benard, and three sisters, Orbree Dixon, Mae Lovingood, and Myrtie Fletcher.  Mr. Benard leaves to celebrate his life: his wife of 63 years, five children, Pamela (Jimmy) Harvey of Arlington; Tammie Cervantez; Jim Benard Jr. (Tizzy), Katrina (Gerald) Adams, & Troy (Udis) Benard all of Amarillo; a special daughter, Mary Benard; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one sister, Pinkie McGill of Kansas City; two brothers-in-law, Alvin (Kathy) Ervin of Katy; and R.C. Ervin of Amarillo; three sisters-in-law, Lela Russell of Dallas; Mattie Jones of Houston; and Mary Gaston of Garland; a tribe of nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He also leaves to honor his legacy several godchildren placed in his life by his Holy Father and shared with his wife – The Thornton Family Siblings, Margie Dick and Henry & Faye Jackson --  as well as lifetime friends, David and Pat Weiser.
