Tulia, Texas—Jean Rowell, 88, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2017. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM Wednesday, January 3, 2018 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Jean was born on June 19, 1929 to Hobart and Anna Mae McManigal. She grew up in Happy and graduated as Valedictorian from Happy High School. She then attended West Texas State University and got a Bachelors Degree and Masters Degree in Education. She taught fifth grade at Happy then moved to Tulia where she taught fifth grade until she retired. She married H.L. Rowell on August 13, 1950 in Happy. Together her and H.L. were charter members of Calvary Baptist Church in Tulia then later became members of First Baptist Church in Tulia. Her faith was exemplified in her devotion to church and community. She worked with H.L. in Prison ministry. After they retired from ministry she continued sending hand written cards to the prisoners on their birthdays and main holidays for many years thereafter. She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her son: John Rowell, her sister: Anne McManigal and a grandson: Josh Wayne Dickey. She is survived by her daughter: Jean Anne Rowell of Plainview, her brother: Hobart McManigal, Jr. and wife Dixie of Vernon, her grandchildren: J’ami Barrett and husband Clint and Lori Sammons and husband Robert, her great grandchildren: Paige, Benjamin, Czrina, David and Rayden.
