Jeane Lee Browning went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on September 29, 2021. He was born in Lubbock, Texas on June 11, 1933, the son of Hollis Wilmot Browning and Alice Venita Firestone Browning. He lived in various towns while growing up including Lubbock, Snyder, and Hubbard, Texas. In 1949, Jeane and his family moved to Plainview where he finished high school. He graduated from Baylor University in 1954. After college, he began farming with his father and also started Browning Onion and Potato Company. Jeane met Barbara Eloise Evans while she was a junior at Wayland. After her graduation, they married on August 16, 1957 in White Deer, Texas. Jeane and Barbara raised their four children in Plainview. Jeane was a true entrepreneur and established Browning Seed Company where he worked and made many wonderful friendships. His sons, Lee and John, continue the family business. In the early 1970’s Jeane served Plainview both as a city councilman and also as a member of the tax equalization board. He taught Dale Carnegie courses for many years and he was always learning and serving others. Jeane was a member at First Baptist Church, having joined in 1949. He took his family faithfully to church each week, taught Sunday School for many years and was a deacon. He was the president of the Optimist Club and also was an active member of the Gideons for many years. Jeane served as the president of Gideons in Plainview and he often went to the jail to speak to the inmates and share the gospel with them. He also passed out Bibles and placed cards in various places for the Gideons. Jeane also worked tirelessly to help raise the money to build the chapel at the prison. Jeane’s greatest desire was that those he knew and loved would come to know Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Barbara, of 64 years, his 4 children and their spouses, Kathryn Holloway (Paul) of Plainview, Karen Higgins, (Jim) of Lubbock, Lee Browning (Kimberly) of Plainview, and John Browning (Alicia) of Plainview; 10 grandchildren: John Paul (Corinne) Holloway of Manassas, Virginia, Christian (Rachel) Holloway of Lubbock, Matthew Holloway of Lubbock, Alison Blalock (Stuart) of Lubbock, Stephanie (Jonathan) Adkins of Lubbock, and Katie (Steven) Langley of Oklahoma City; Mackenzie Browning of Plainview and Emily Browning of Prince Edward Island, Canada; Jace Browning and Brooks Browning, both of Plainview; and 6 great grandchildren: Kelsey and Pierce Blalock, Cullen and Emma Kate Adkins and Sophie and Beatrice Holloway.
