A celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 31, 2023 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park. Visitation/Rosary service will be held from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, March 30, 2023 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Plainview. Jesus was born June 11, 1933 in Melvin, TX to Gabriel & Juana Barrera. At an early age he and his brother ventured out on their own due to the early deaths of their parents. He married Guadalupe Gomez and resided in Plainview, Texas. They were blessed with five children. He enjoyed taking his children fishing and attending professional wrestling events. There was always the adventure of traveling to Mexico for the bull fights. These memories will forever be cherished. As a young man he traveled the US and worked in the sheep shearing industry, worked in the mines of the Black Hills in South Dakota, and eventually gained the skills of a metal fabricator/welder. He worked for Carter's feedlot, Walmart Distribution, and drove for Captrans. He served his country and was in the United States Army. He was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Plainview and was involved in many ministries. Jesus is survived by two sons, Jesse Barrera of Plainview, TX and Martin Barrera of Lubbock, TX; one daughter and son-in-law, Rosa Barrera Lees and Shawn McCarty of Lubbock, TX; eleven grandchildren, Jarod Gonzales and wife Courtney, Amber Lees, Justin Betancur and wife Emily, Mack Dillon Lees, Addie Lees, Jess Lees, Kim Vail, Dustin McCarty, Jacei Barrera, Maddison Barrera and Jayden Barrera; twelve great grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Isidro Gomez & wife Linda of Chesterfield, VA; one nephew, Isidro Gomez II; two nieces, Shanna Gomez Harrison and Lisa Shipe; six great nieces and three great nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Gabriel & Juana Barrera; his wife, Guadalupe Barrera; his son, Gabino Barrera; his daughter, Juanita Barrera Minnick; one nephew, Gustavo Gomez and a grandson, McKenzie Taylor.
