Jimmy Lee Matlock, 91, of Plainview passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 19, 2025 at 2:00 P.M. at College Heights Baptist Church with Guy Atkinson, Traditions Hospice Chaplain officiating. Burial will follow in the Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
A visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5 to 6:30 p.m. at Kornerstone.
Jimmy was born on April 18, 1933 in the Aiken Community of Floyd County to Frank and Sue Matlock. His father served in the U.S. Navy so he grew up in Washington State before settling back in the Plainview area and graduated from Plainview High School. He was a carpenter and worked in construction. He owned and operated Matlock Builders for many years. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, longtime member of College Heights Baptist Church and currently a member of Bethel Baptist Church. He was also a founding member of the Hi-Plains Rock Club. Jimmy enjoyed riding motorcycles, he enjoyed making spheres and exhibiting them at Rock Shows in Texas and New Mexico. He also loved to help people using his God given talents and spending time reading the bible.
Jimmy married Mildred Louise Mauldin on May 17, 1952 in Portales, New Mexico. She preceded him in death on December 1, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents, sister, Mary Wheeler, and a son-in-law, Reis Ritz.
Survivors include his daughter, Paula Ritz of Midland; son, Jerry Matlock and wife Lorri of Plainview; four grandchildren, Chas Gauthier and wife Stephanie of Midland, Lacy Connally and husband Justin of New Braunfels, Brandon Ritz and wife Emilee of Georgetown, Laiken Brazil and husband Reece of Wolfforth; six great grandchildren, Isabella Ritz, Campbell Connally, Holt Connally, Jagger Gauthier, Ford Gauthier, and Brooks Brazil.
The family would like to send out a special thanks to Laura Juarez of Traditions Hospice and the staff of Santa Fe Terrace for their loving care of Jimmy.
The family suggests memorials to Hi-Plains Gem & Mineral Society or College Heights Baptist Church or Bethel Baptist Church.
