Born on August 12, 1935, to Kenny and Myrtle McCaslin at the home place in the Salem Community, JoAnn was the fifth of six siblings. She attended school in Happy, Texas, where she grew up surrounded by love and faith.
On December 22, 1951, JoAnn married the love of her life, Tommy Ewing, in the Trinity Chapel of Salem Community. Together, they built a life filled with love, service, and unwavering devotion to family and faith.
JoAnn was a dedicated Christian who loved her Lord deeply. She most recently attended St. Stephen Church and was previously a faithful member of the Tulia Methodist Church before moving to Amarillo in 2022. Her knowledge of the Bible and steadfast faith made her a prayer warrior, sought out by many for comfort and guidance. During her years as a minister’s wife, she found great joy in teaching Sunday school, singing in the church choirs, and visiting hospitals, nursing homes, and shut-ins to pray over them.
A devoted homemaker, JoAnn poured her heart into caring for her family. She was a wonderful cook and an exceptional seamstress, always making sure her loved ones were well cared for. She especially treasured time spent baking, dyeing Easter eggs, and attending her grandchildren’s sporting events, band performances, and choir concerts. She loved unconditionally, and each member of her family held a special place in her heart.
JoAnn is survived by her three daughters: Sharon Boland of Amarillo, TX, Karen Kaiser of Amarillo, TX, Patricia Cunningham and husband Bruce of Lubbock, TX. She was blessed with six grandchildren, Belinda Fuller and husband Doyle of Broken Arrow, OK, Emily Choate and husband Brandon of Panhandle, TX, Matthew Hudson and wife Mindy of Stafford, VA, Katina Leigh and husband Daniel Chavez of Amarillo, TX, Timothy Cunningham and wife Sara of Prosper, TX, Theresa Brandes and husband Jeramy North Lake, TX.
Her legacy continues through her 17 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. She is also survived by Bobby and Brenda Hudson and their family, along with four cherished sisters-in-law: Mary McCaslin, Christine Gunnels, Melba White, and Vicki Bowers, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Tommy Ewing; her parents, Kenny and Myrtle McCaslin; her sister, Bettye Myers and husband Phillip; four brothers, Billy McCaslin and wife Becky, Kenneth McCaslin and wife Opal, Glen McCaslin and wife Jo, and Charles McCaslin; and two sons-in-law, Bruce Boland and Ron Kaiser.
JoAnn’s kindness, unwavering faith, and deep love for her family will be forever remembered.
