Jo Wilkerson (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Jo Wilkerson, 94, passed away on Wednesday, August 29, 2018. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, August 31, 2018 in the Rose Hill Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

 

Jo was born November 5, 1923 in Quitaque to Howell and Lela Mae Overstreet. She grew up in Quitaque and graduated from Quitaque High School. She married John P. Wilkerson on February 18, 1941 in Childress. They were married for 68 years. They lived in Amarillo for several years and she worked for Pantex during WWII and as a receptionist in a doctor’s office in Amarillo before moving to Tulia where she and John opened John Wilkerson Ford Dealership in 1961. She worked as the accountant there from 1961 until they retired in 1988. She received numerous accounting awards from Ford Motor Company for outstanding accounting work at the dealership. They were members of First Baptist Church in Tulia.

 

She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister: Mildred McKinley and

her husband: John died April 6, 2009.

 

She is survived by her son: Hal Wilkerson and wife Sandy of Tulia, her daughter: Jan Phillips of Amarillo and two grandchildren: Amy Wilkerson of Denver, Colorado and Blake Phillips of Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

 

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church, 101 N. Crosby, Tulia, TX 79088 or to Rose Hill Cemetery, P.O. Box 116, Tulia, TX 79088.
