John Richard Gill (Plainview)

John Richard Gill, age 90 of Silverton,TX left this earth on February 1, 2018.  Born September 7, 1927, in Groom, TX he was the 10th of 11 children of Robert Eber and Loyce Buzan Gill, all who have preceded him in death.  At the age of four (4) weeks his family moved to Canyon, TX where he attended school.  While at West Texas State, he met Wilma Lee Francis who he married in August 17, 1949.  Initially farming in the Francis community of Briscoe County, he was drafted into the Army in September 1951.  He served in the Quartermaster Corp. during the Korean War, primarily in Anchorage, AK, returning to the farm in 1954.  To this union were born four (4) children, Cris Eugene, Brett Richard, Tracy, and Eber Allen.  Brett Richard Gill preceded him in death in 1999 due to complications from leukemia.  He is survived by his wife, three (3) children (three (3) beloved daughter in laws and one (1) beloved son in law), six (6) grandchildren, four (4) step-grandchildren (one (1) step-grandchild proceeding him in death) and three (3) step-great grandchildren. Also two (2) sisters In law, Winona Franks of Amarillo and Dorothy Gill of Canyon, and one (1) brother in law, Joe Dale Francis of Denver, CO.;  and a host of family and friends. A celebration of his life will be held at the Kornerstone Funeral Chapel, Monday, February 5, 2018 at 1:00 pm with interment being later at 3:00 pm in Silverton Cemetery. There will be a visitation on Sunday, February 4th from 3:00-5:00 P.M.   In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Silverton Volunteer Ambulance service.
