John was born on June 16, 1930 to Daye and Vernada Peck in Duncan, Oklahoma. John married the love of his life, Nida Peck, in Plainview on July 21, 1952. John devoted over 35 years of his life to the education system, where he managed the business affairs of the school district with passion and commitment. John invested 11 years as an educator in Fritch, then went on to serve as the principal at Hillcrest Elementary and Coronado Junior High in Plainview, Texas, before taking on the role of superintendent for Lockney Independent School District. He retired from the education system as an assistant superintendent of Plainview ISD. His commitment to fostering a nurturing and successful educational environment left a lasting mark on the communities he served. His career not only impacted the lives of countless students and educators but also set a standard for fiscal responsibility in educational institutions. After serving in the education system, he became involved with selling Aflac policies and advice to all that he served. He took great pleasure in helping those who needed life insurance or cancer policies. John found great solace in his faith. He was an active and devoted member of Garland Street Church of Christ in Plainview, where he served as an elder for many years and found joy in the fellowship and congregation. John found great joy in his passions, which included golfing, hunting, and fishing. He loved to spend quality time with his grandchildren, creating cherished memories that they will hold dear forever. His love for adventure took him to beautiful destinations including Scotland and New York, where he delighted in trying new restaurants and attending musicals. John also had a fondness for Dr. Pepper. One memorable occasion even saw him receiving a truck full of his favorite beverage at home, a testament to his joyful spirit and love for life's little pleasures. He cherished the moments spent at his cabin in Colorado, finding peace in nature and the beauty it holds.

John was preceded in death by his wife, Nida Peck, two daughters, Susan Peck who died shortly after birth and Karol Peck who was killed by a drunk driver; one brother in law, Curtis and his wife Helen Parker; and his parents, Daye and Vernada Peck.

John is survived by his daughter, Debra Peck of Lubbock, son, Kyle Peck and wife Sharon of Lubbock; three grandchildren, Keegan Peck, Kelsey Peck, Kensly Peck, all of Lubbock; two nieces, Vivian Smith and husband Tom of Florida, Patricia Grice and husband Greg of Florida, and one nephew, Don Parker and wife Becky of Kansas.
