John William "Bill" Stanton passed away unexpectedly from this life on to the next on May 25. 2022. Bill was born in Lubbock, Texas on March 26, 1950 to John Frank Stanton & June Scarborough Stanton. He grew up in Petersburg, Texas and graduated from Petersburg High School. Bill graduated from Texas Tech University with a B.S. in Business Administration. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta Fraternity where he made life long friendships that lasted the rest of his life. After college he moved to Houston, Texas, where he met his wife Gail Davis. They were married in 1975 in San Angelo, Texas. In 1975 they moved to Petersburg, Texas where Bill continued the family tradition of farming as a 3rd generation farmer. He passed the love of the land on to his son Tyler and his grandchildren. Bill loved the laid back life style of small town living where he embraced God, family, friends and farming. He had many passions in life including hunting, fishing, golfing, listening to country music and of course supporting his Red Raiders. He was a life long member of the First United Methodist Church in Petersburg and the local Lions Club. Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His life with Gail was an adventure of love, laughter and happiness for 47 years. When farming allowed, they loved spending time in Cloudcroft, New Mexico and White River Lake. His wonderful optimistic attitude about life made him a favorite with everyone and he will be greatly missed. He cherished all the time spent with his family and friends. Bill lived a fun, joyful and blessed life. Bill is survived by his wife, Gail Stanton of Petersburg; his son, John Tyler Stanton & wife Allyson of Abernathy; his wonderful grandchildren, John Valdon Stanton and Reed Hawkins Stanton; his sister, Donna Hollins of Carmel, Indiana; his nieces, Hunter Roraus and Bailey Wilder; his sister-in-law, Donna Moody & husband Carroll of San Angelo and lots of Scarborough cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank & June Stanton. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 P.M. Monday, May 30, 2022 at the First Baptist Church in Petersburg, Texas.
