Johnny Martin James, 76, peacefully celebrated his heavenly homecoming Thursday, November 1, 2018. Johnny was a longtime resident of Plainview, Texas and had enjoyed the last years of his life in Beaumont, Tx. He leaves behind his daughter Amy Detwiler and husband Robin, son Jason James and wife Jennifer, grandson Saxton Detwiler and wife Nikki, granddaughter Summer Bernhardt and husband Troy, grandson Brennen James, great-grandson Lexon Detwiler, great step-grandson Parker Boyles, and many special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Glen and Norma James and sisters Jeananne and Glenda James and his wife Rhea James.
Johnny was born February 23, 1942, to Glen and Norma James. Johnny graduated from Plainview High School, attended Texas Tech University and served in the army during the Vietnam War. Johnny farmed most of his life in the Plainview area and was a member of First Baptist Church there. Johnny loved fishing, playing 42, watching football games, and visiting with his fellow farmers, family and many friends.
A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday at Kornerstone Funeral Home in Plainview from 5:30 p.m.-7:00 p.m. and a graveside service will be held Tuesday morning at Post Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Johnny's honor to the PHC Foundation (a non-profit foundation benefitting unfunded hospice care), 4347 Crow Rd, Beaumont, TX 77706.
