Tulia, Texas, Jose “Joe” Frausto, 79, passed away on Tuesday, April 13, 2021 in Kress. A Mass of a Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at 10:00 AM at the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit with Celebrant Most Rev. Bishop Patrick J. Zurek, Concelebrant Rev. David Contreras officiating and Deacon Jackie Gunnels assisting. Burial will follow at Kress Cemetery in Kress, Texas. Funeral services are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
A rosary will be held on Friday, April 16, 2021 at 5:30 to 7:30 PM in the Kornerstone Funeral Directors Chapel.
Joe was born on September 9, 1941 in Yancey, Texas to Santiago Sr. and Eduvijien (Martinez) Frausto. Joe came to the Panhandle in 1959 to Dalhart, TX where he farmed and later moved to Vigo Park and farmed for 10 years. He married the love of his life Lilly Sertuche on February 4, 1960 and they both moved to Kress as he farmed for the Hosteller’s. Joe was ordained as a Deacon in 1977 and has served many families and the church. After farming Joe decided to go work at Excel Beef in Plainview for 20 years and retired in 1989. Joe and his family owned and operated Frausto’s Tortilla Factory from 1983 to 2000. Joe became the second Hispanic mayor in the State of Texas, which he was so proud to serve the City of Kress. He was a member of the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit in Tulia and Saint Paul’s Catholic Church in Kress. Joe loved our Lord Jesus Christ and will be remembered by his preaching and helping families in times of need. His passions were religion and education and his hobbies included fishing, reading, and enjoying being with his family.
He is preceded in death by his parents; Santiago Sr. and Eduvijien Frausto, his brothers and sisters; Frank Frausto, Santiago Frausto, Pedro Frausto, Richard Frausto, Angelina Frausto, Juana Frausto, Felix Frausto and Milton Frausto.
He is survived by his wife; Lilly Frausto of Kress, his children; Isabel Frausto Macias of Lubbock, Alexander Frausto and wife Felipa of Dallas, Richard James Frausto and wife Priscilla of Tulia and Milton Joe Frausto and wife Nancy of Lubbock, one brother; Antonio Frausto and wife Minnie of Kress, his half-sister; Estella Deleon of Hondo, TX, ten grandchildren; Vinny, Nikki, Brunita Lilly, Alexander Jr., Amber Lynn, Richard “Richie”, Ronnie, Serena, Jayden, Aaron and 23 great grandchildren.
