Joyce Carthel (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Joyce Carthel, 84, passed away on Friday, August 24, 2018. Funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm Monday, August 27, 2018 in the First Baptist Church with Rev. Charles Davenport officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 26, 2018 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the funeral home.

Joyce was born on September 5, 1933 in Wellington to A.L. and Allie Isaacs. She grew up in Memphis and New Deal and graduated New Deal High School in 1951. She married RD Jordan in 1953. She married L.J. Carthel in 1970. They moved to Tulia in 1977.  She worked for Swisher Electric Cooperative for 20 years before retiring. She was a member of First Baptist Church.

She is preceded in death by her parents, a son: Roy Dow Jordan and her husband: L.J. Carthel.

She is survived by four daughters: Sharon Lemons and husband Allen of Seagraves, Debbie Fisher and husband Jimmy of Tulia, Darla Sue Trammell and husband Dennie of Tulia and Jolina Flowers of Tulia, one son: Lee Wayne Carthel and wife Kris of Tulsa, Oklahoma, five sisters: Sue Arthur of Amarillo, Margaret Parker of Plainview, Glenna Harris of Amarillo, Carolyn Deavours of New Braunfels and Jeannie Lemon of Idalou, 19 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
