Joyce Simpson Porter, 92, of Petersuburg went to be with the Lord in heaven Friday, May 4, 2018. She was born July 28, 1925 in Ralls, TX to Walter and Ethel Simpson. She graduated from Ralls High School and attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, TX for 2 years where she received a teaching certificate. She married H. L Porter Jr. on November 23, 1944. One of the highlights of their marriage was the 50th Anniversary celebration that was held in Petersburg in their honor. Her husband preceded her in death on October 10, 2012. She is survived by two sons, Ray and wife Patrick of Lubbock and Kim and wife Cindy of Petersburg. Joyce had 4 grandchildren, Renae Cobb, Doug Porter, Misty Appling and Skye Moffitt. She also had 8 great grandchildren, Courtney and Sarah Cobb, Avery and Chloe Appling, Jacob and Carson Porter, and Connor and Luke Moffitt. She is survived by two siblings, Nova Jean Marley and Billy Simpson, both of Crosbyton. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Petersburg, where she served as a Sunday School teacher for over 50 years. She was also a Worthy Matron of the Petersburg chapter of the Eastern Star. She loved to play bridge and was a “regular” at the bridge center in Lubbock. She also enjoyed reading books. The family wishes to express their gratitude to Cathy Champion, her loving caregiver and to Beehive Assisted Living in Floydada for their excellent care. A visitation will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2018 at Kornerstone Funeral Directors from 4:30 to 6:30 P.M. A private family graveside will be held in Petersburg Cemetery under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
