Joyce Rai Watson (Plainview)

Joyce Watson, 93, of Plainview, passed away on Saturday, December 26, 2020.  Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, December 29, 2020 at Plainview Memorial Park with Dr. Jacob West of First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Born Joyce Rai Langston on March 12, 1927 in Plainview to J.O. and Gertrude Langston. On May 24, 1947 she married her husband of 52 years, Elmer Richard Watson in Lovington, New Mexico.  Mrs. Watson was a longtime member of College Heights Baptist Church and an active participant with the Plainview Senior Citizens Center and surrounding area.  In her later teens, she attended Lippert’s Business College where she studied bookkeeping.  After marriage, she attended Adel’s Beauty School where she earned her license to practice as a beautician.  Joyce loved keeping her hands busy and had a passion for sewing, oil painting, crocheting, and working in her flower beds and planting her own vegetable garden, spending countless hours each summer canning vegetables and turning fruits into jellies. 

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Roy, R.T., Raleigh and Russell; sister Jackie; husband Elmer; son Lenard and daughters-in-law Lana and Debra; half-brothers Jerry Langston and Dale Langston.

She is survived by children Richard Watson and wife Linda of Plainview, Rodney Watson and wife Seliece of Plainview, and daughter Dawn McMillan and husband Ronnie of Frisco.  Other survivors include 4 granddaughters, 5 grandsons, 5 great-granddaughters and 10 great-grandsons; half-sister Donna Criss of Odessa and half-brother Mack Langston and wife Barbara of Caldwell.

Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels or to the Senior Citizens Center of Plainview.
