L. Kaylene Ramsey, 82, of Plainview died at home on June 27, 2023. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, June 30, 2023 in the sanctuary at Plainview Methodist Church of Plainview with Pastors Russ Panzer and Ted Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in Plainview Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.
Kaylene was born June 28, 1940 in Plainview, Texas to W.B. and Cleo Tilson. She grew up in the Bellview and Happy Union communities, graduating from Plainview High School in 1958. She attended West Texas State College in Canyon, Texas graduating with a major in education. Prior to graduation she met and married her husband of 34 years, LaMarr Ramsey. She worked as a science teacher at Bonham and Palo Duro Schools in Amarillo, Texas before they moved back to the family farm.
As a wife and mother, she was active on the farm, as well as the PTA at Hillcrest Elementary in Plainview and Alice Landergin Elementary in Amarillo. She would travel twice weekly for 13 years so Rhonda, her youngest daughter could attend deaf education classes. She was also active at her church as a board member serving on several committees and teaching Sunday School and The Bethel Series. She and her husband were members of the Open Door Sunday School classes.
Including in her work on the farm, she was the secretary for the Texas Soybean Association.
After being diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis is 1968, she was determined not to allow the illness to limit her life and activities.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, a brother Larry Kent Tilson, Her sister Karen Hayden and a niece Holly Hayden.
She is survived by her daughters, Marla Kay Howard of Plainview and Rhonda Pierce and husband Tony of Hale Center; two grandchildren, David Howard and Leann Johnson of Plainview and Deidre Howard and Sean Mayfield of Plainview. She has one niece Lori Lovell Waller and husband Gary of Georgetown and a great niece Britini Langford and husband Logan and their daughter Eden of Colorado Springs, Colorado and numerous cousins.
