Silverton, Texas—LaRue Garvin, 90, passed away on Monday, June 26, 2023. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, June 28, 2023, at 10:00 am in the First Baptist Church of Silverton. A visitation will be from 9:00 A.M. until service time on Wednesday at the church. A burial will follow in Silverton Cemetery. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia.
LaRue was born on August 22, 1932, in Silverton to Luther and Ruby (Bomar) Gilkeyson. She grew up in Silverton and graduated from Silverton High School. She attended Texas Tech for two years. She married L.B. Garvin, Jr. on August 3, 1951. She was a farmer’s wife. She played the organ at the First Baptist Church for 65 years. She taught piano, was an EMT and a mail carrier. She was a member of First Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
She is survived by her children: Lane and Paula Garvin of Silverton and Danna Coleman of Silverton, four grandchildren: Brooke Whitworth of Silverton, Kurby and Brandon Mitchell of Wellington, Kayla Coleman of Wellington, and Zackary Coleman of Conroe, her six great grandchildren: Landry Whitworth, Baron Mitchell, Merick Mitchell, Acylynn Coleman, Kory Coleman and Ansylee Hansen and her two great, great grandsons: Ezekiel Coleman and Damien Coleman, her sister: Sharon Simpson of Silverton and her cousin: Dr. Samuel Brown of Plainview.
