Leticia Contreras (Tulia)

Tulia, Texas—Leticia Contreras, 74, died on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Cremation arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Tulia. Viewing will be allowed on Friday and Saturday in the funeral home chapel from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Leticia was born on June 8, 1948 in Coahuila, Mexico to Refugio and Francisca Castillo. Growing up her family were migrant workers. She met Juan Contreras in 1965 and was married. They started a ministry where she would sing, and he would preach. They lived in Plainview and later moved to Tulia. She worked for the Tulia Day Care. This is where everyone started to call her “Grandma”. Her favorite things to do were taking care of her yard and her flowers. She loved her children and grandchildren and loved to go shopping for them. She always wanted her “coffee and toast bread” in the morning. But most importantly she was a faithful follower and believer in Jesus Christ.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband: Juan Contreras, her brother: Juan Castillo, her sister: Maria Martinez, three step-sons: Santos Villarreal, John Contreras, and Antonio Contreras; and three grandsons: Ashton Bryant McCrary, Isaac Contreras and Alejandre Contreras.

She is survived by her children: Eva Castillo and husband Joe, Frances McDowell and boyfriend Matt Howell, Eubie McCrary and boyfriend Santos Garlobo and Reyes Contreras and wife Shannon, all of Tulia, two step-daughters: Juanita Contreras and Consuelo Contreras, both of Altus. her brother: Francisco Castillo and wife Ruby of Los Angeles, California, her sisters: Ube Reyna and boyfriend Raul Barbosa of Tulia, Pauline Garza and husband Mike of Tulia and Eulalia Casarez and husband Ricky of Waco, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
