Magdalene Minnie Young (Plainview)

Magdalene Minnie Young passed peacefully from this life into eternal life surrounded by her family on May 23, 2024, in Lubbock, Texas, just two months shy of turning 98 years old.  She was born July 26, 1926, the youngest of eight children, in Swisher County to her parents, Peter and Pauline (Bontke) Barbian.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Kornerstone Funeral Directors, 3605 SW 3rd Street, Plainview, Texas, with Pastor Charles Nemec officiating.  Burial will follow in Plainview Memorial Park.  We welcome all who knew Magdalene to join us in celebrating her life.

Magdalene grew up on the farm speaking her immigrated father’s native language of German, learning English when she started school.   She worked as a telephone operator in Plainview before marrying her husband, Edgar Young.  They were married over 60 years, farming outside of Kress while raising their two children.  Magdalene was ever calm and serene in her life long Lutheran faith, earning the love of all who knew her.  She was a wealth of knowledge on nutrition, vitamins, natural health resources and enjoyed working crossword puzzles.  Her hand written recipes will be treasured for generations. The time she spent playing board games (usually winning with modesty), cooking, conversing, and adoring her grandchildren will always be treasured memories for them.

Magdalene was predeceased by her husband, parents and siblings Louis Barbian, Barbara Berner, Johnny Barbian, Frank Barbian, Tony Barbian, Pete Barbian and Bertha James.

She is survived by daughter Pauline and husband, Bill Schuster, son Carl and wife, Janet Young, five grandchildren Cynthia and husband, Brandon Koch, William and wife, Chrissy Schuster, Denise Schuster, Melissa Young and fiancé, Daniel Murga,  Jessica and husband, Jack Womack, one great grandson, Noah Murga, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their deep appreciation for the loving care bestowed upon our beloved Mother and Grandmother in Lubbock by Abiding Care Assisted Living and Traditions Health Hospice.  Pastor Charles Nemec and wife Christianna of Redeemer Lutheran Church gave great comfort and support to our family with many visits, prayers, songs and words of encouragement.

Memorials in Magdalene’s name may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church, 2221 Avenue W, Lubbock, TX 79411 or St. Paul Lutheran Church, P .O. Box 595, Plainview, TX 79073.
