Marie Vaughn (Tulia)

Marie Vaughn was born on February 16, 1929 to Robert H. Gayler and Vivian
Uhl Gayler in their home. She attended Center Plains School and graduated from
Kress High School in 1946. She also attended and graduated from Texas
Women’s College in Denton TX in 1950. Marie married the love of her life Joe D.
Vaughn in her parents’ home on June 18, 1950.
Marie passed away Tuesday August 11, 2020 in Corpus Christi Texas. Farming,
ranching, photography, knitting, crocheting, needlework and becoming known
throughout the nation as the “go-to” person for Cessna Agricultural aircraft parts,
were but a few of her many & varied talents. Joe and Marie retired many years
ago and loved fishing together and with their friends. Their favorite fishin’ holes
were scattered across Texas and Mexico. They especially enjoyed Rockport
Texas, taking up salt-water fishing, where they soon became well known icons,
with Marie in her silk balaclava, fishing hat, long-sleeved shirt and boy’s baseball
batting gloves to protect her from the ever-present sun.
Marie is fishin’ with Joe D, who was waiting on her for a change. She is survived
by sons Joe H. & wife Jana of Tulia, John W. of Kress, and daughter Cynthia
Joiner & husband David of Sugar Land, a grandson Ryan Maney & wife Monica
of San Antonio TX, granddaughter Cameron V. Joiner of Sugar Land, three
great-granddaughters, sister Nancy Jones of Amarillo TX, brother Robert S.
Gayler & wife Carol of Boise City OK, and many nieces and nephews. She is
predeceased by her parents and sister Helen Parker.
Services are under the direction of Kornerstone Funeral Directors in Tulia, TX &
will be at 10:00 Saturday August 22, 2020 in the chapel with Reverend Karel
Smith of Amarillo officiating. Graveside services to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery
at Tulia TX. A visitation will be held on Friday, August 21st from 6:00 to 7:30 pm
at Kornerstone Funeral Directors. Pallbearers are Don Parker, Matt Parker,
Shane Smith, Randy Falkenberg, Louis Cannon & Dwain Strange. Honorary
Pallbearers are Tim Rupp, Perry Rupp, Boyd Vaughn, John Murray, Joe Hadley,
Chris Murray, Paul Baen, Dorman Dunn, Lou Menendez, Richard Germer,
Jason Madarang and Luke Funkhouser. The family would like to express our gratitude to the staff of
Mirador and Kindred Hospice in Corpus Christi for caring for Marie.
