Mary James McCarty was born December 23, 1925 in Grandview, Texas to J.W. and Kitty James. She passed away August 5, 2020 at the age of 94. Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Monday, August 10, 2020 at Kornerstone Chapel with Oscar Chavez, chaplain for Area Community Hospice officiating. Burial will follow in Parklawn Memorial Park under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors.
She moved to Littlefield as a young girl in 1928. She was one of ten kids that grew up in Littlefield and graduated from high school there in 1943.
She married Maurice Earl McCarty in Littlefield on June 12, 1943 and they were married sixty and one half years before he passed away on December 14, 2003. They moved to Edmonson, Texas in 1952 and farmed for many years. She was a hardworking farmer’s wife, always had a big garden and lots of pretty flowers. In her later years she went to work helping her sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bill McBride at Plainview Hardware. She was a member of the Edmonson Home Demonstration Club and was named Hale County Home Demonstration Woman of the Year in 2003. She was very proud of that! She also was a Sunday School teacher for many years at First Baptist Church of Edmonson and then later at College Heights Baptist Church in Plainview, where she was still a member.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice; her son, Mike McCarty in 2005; her granddaughter, Kimberly Myrick and daughter-in-law, Joan McCarty in 2020.
She is survived by her daughter, Paula and Ricky Sisemore of Plainview; her son Ron McCarty of Lubbock; her grandchildren, Kristy Bechtold of Amarillo, Joey Myrick of Plainview, Carey Self of Leander, Justin McCarty of Dallas, Corey McCarty of Boerne, Matthew McCarty of Canyon, Julianne McCarty of Plainview, Cassandra Hargrove of Lubbock, Deidra Dutshmann of China Springs, Jessica Musser of North Carolina; her sisters, Joyce McBride of Plainview, Helen Pair of Plainview, Bonnie Gaston of Plainview; twenty-two great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews.
Serving as pallbearers for the service are the grandsons and great grandsons, Matthew McCarty, Andrew Myrick, Joey Myrick, Justin Bechtold, Luke Myrick, Logan Bechtold. Honorary pallbearer is great granddaughter, Sarah Grace Myrick.
We want to thank Westridge Manor for taking such good care of our mother! She loved living there, please keep them all in your prayers.
