Tulia, Texas-Mary Norris, 96, of Tulia went to be with our Lord Jesus Christ on Friday, January 27, 2023. Funeral mass will be held on Thursday, February 2, 2023, at 11:00 AM at the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit with Father David Contreras officiating and Deacon Jackie Gunnels assisting. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery under the care of Kornerstone Directors of Tulia.
A rosary will be held on Wednesday, February 1, 2023, at 6:30 to 7:30 PM at Kornerstone chapel.
Mary was born on January 15, 1927, on a farm ten miles North of Tulia to Marvin and Angelina (Rossi) Nobile. She attended school in Union Hill and transferred her senior year to Tulia High School and graduated in 1945. She married James (Jim Norris) on February 2, 1967, where he preceded her in death on September 25, 1995. She started working for the First National Bank on July 8, 1949 and retired after 46 years in 1995. Mary received the Tulia Woman of the Year Award in 1998. She did so much for her community volunteering in the Swisher County RSVP and received the Volunteer of the Year Award in 2010. She volunteered as a reader at the Elementary School, Swisher Memorial Hospital Auxiliary popping popcorn and helping at the American Legion. Mary drove patients to their medical appointments for the American Cancer Society. She was the treasurer for many years for the VFW Women’s Auxiliary Post 1798. She was a member of the Catholic Church of the Holy Spirit, being active in the Ladies Organizations. In 2017, Mary received the Pioneer Spirit Award. Mary’s favorite hobby was bowling, going to state and national tournaments from coast to coast. She was a league bowler for over 35 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Marvin, and Angelina (Rossi) Nobile; her brothers, Loyd Nobile, Ray Nobile, and Lonnie Nobile; her sisters, Frances Grossman and Virgie Nobile; her husband, Jim Norris; her nephews, Jerry Grossman and David Nobile; her niece, Joan Nobile Frost and a great niece, Sarah Tucker.
She is survived by her nieces and nephews, Leo Grossman and wife Robbie of Hart, Jean Grossman of Canyon, Sue Hildebrand and husband Alan of Georgetown, Raymond Nobile and wife Jeriann of Amarillo, Carol Huckabay and husband David of Amarillo, Karen Daniel and husband Russell of Amarillo, Jimmy Nobile and wife Pama of Amarillo, Zeke Frost, and wife Susie of Happy and Velaunda Keeter and husband Jerry of Canyon, numerous great and great, great nieces, and nephews.
