Despite her lack of formal education in reading and writing she managed to teach the little children about Jesus Christ. When she was not in the nursery, she would be in the kitchen helping prepare meals for special occasions. She also enjoyed partnering with First Baptist Church on mission trips to Mexico as an interpreter and cook. Maria was a faithful member of Abundant Grace Church Plainview.
