Maxie Elizabeth Walls (Plainview)

Maxie Elizabeth Walls, 93, of Plainview passed away Sunday, October 13, 2024.

Visitation will be at Kornerstone Funeral Directors from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2024. Graveside services will be at Plainview Memorial Park at 1 p.m. Friday, October 18, 2024. Arrangements are under the care of Kornerstone Funeral Directors of Plainview.

Maxie was born to Hubert and Jorja Turner on April 19, 1931, in Sylvester, TX. After graduating from Roscoe High School, she began her higher education career at Tarleton State College. In 1952, she transferred to Howard Payne University where she met the love of her life, Bill Walls. They married in 1953 at First Baptist Church in Hale Center. Maxie soon began a teaching career of approximately 40 years in Nocona, Hale Center and the Plainview Independent School District, where many years were spent as an elementary music teacher.

Maxie and Bill farmed in Hale County, and she was active in the Plainview community, including volunteering for Plainview Community Concerts. She also was a member of College Heights Baptist Church, including serving as the pianist when her sister, Pat, was the organist.

Maxie took great joy in her students, and it was a regular occurrence for former students to see and greet her, reminiscing about their days in her class and what they had learned from her. Outside of teaching, she loved spending time with her family, hosting dinners for family and friends, playing Bridge, and playing the piano. She was an avid reader and enjoyed discussions on current events.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Carissa; her parents, Hubert and Jorja Turner; her sister, Pat; and brothers, Joe Turner and John Lee Turner.

Survivors include her husband, Bill; sons, Doyle Walls and wife Teresia, and John Walls and wife Dawna; four grandchildren; and beloved relatives and friends.

The family extends great thanks to the staff at Westridge Manor, Connie’s Compassionate Care and Interim Healthcare for the special support they provided for Maxie during the past two years.

The family suggests memorials in her name to Shriners Hospitals for Children, www.lovetotherescue.org.
